Consistent Pacing with Strategic Improvements Daniel Chen, a 44-year-old from Champaign, IL, participated in the 2025 Mesa Marathon Half Marathon, representing the 50 States Half Marathon Club. Covering a distance of 13.1 miles with a finish time of 2:38:34, Daniel maintained an average pace of 12:06 min/mile. His performance against 3859 participants placed him at 2754 overall, 1346th among males, and 151st in his division (M40-44). Daniel began strong with a 10:12 pace in the first mile but experienced some gradual decline in pace, peaking at 13:14 during the eighth mile. Despite this slowdown, he showed resilience by regaining some speed, especially noticeable in the last mile with an improved pace of 11:59. A key focus for upcoming races could be working on maintaining consistent paces throughout the race, particularly in the middle segments, to keep the momentum strong and steady.
