Consistent Pace with Early Momentum in Marathon Gary Millslagle, 65, from Mesa, AZ, ran the 2025 Mesa Marathon with a strong start. His early splits showed a noteworthy pace, beginning the race at 7:51 min/mile for the first mile, placing 2nd in his age division. Maintaining a sub-8-minute pace for most of the first half kept him in a competitive position. By mile 10, he was able to maintain an average pace of 8:14 min/mile while adjusting to the race dynamics effectively. In the latter half, Gary's endurance was tested, and his splits showed a gradual deceleration, with the overall pace concluding at 8:46 min/mile. Despite the challenge in the final miles, where the pace slipped over 9 minutes per mile, Gary finished with a commendable elapsed time of 3:49:46. His performance placed him 6th in the M65-69 division. Focusing on sustaining his early pace longer could elevate future results.
