Significant Pace Improvement and Strong Finish Jose Laserna, a 48-year-old runner from Phoenix, delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 Mesa Marathon. Finishing the half marathon in 1:27:06 with an average pace of 6:38 min/mile, Jose made significant improvements compared to his previous race. This event highlighted his consistent performance, most notably between miles 6 and 13, maintaining splits predominantly in the 6:29 to 6:40 min/mile range. Particularly of note is Jose's dramatic improvement since his last recorded half marathon, where he completed the distance at a 14:20 min/mile pace. His strategic pacing over the first two miles, with a notable drop in time to 6:10 min/mile in the second mile, set the tone for the rest of the race.
