Strong Start, Gradual Slowdown Patrick OHagan, 33, from South Pittsburg, TN, made an impressive start at the 2025 Mesa Marathon, showing remarkable pace during the initial miles. His first mile was completed in 5:49, one of his fastest splits. He maintained a sub-7-minute mile showing through the seventh mile, with his splits ranging between 6:05 min/mile and 6:36 min/mile. This early strategy positioned him well in his age Division M30-34, with a stronghold within the top 20 up to the fourth mile. However, as the marathon progressed, Patrick's pacing showed a gradual decline. By the 13th mile, his pace dropped to 8:41 min/mile, with a steady increase to 8:47 min/mile by the final split. Despite the challenges, Patrick still maintained respectable positions, finishing 889th among male participants, and 162nd in his division. His finish time of 3:50:39 places him in a position to consider pacing strategies for future events. Working on maintaining pace endurance in the latter miles could be beneficial for replicating his strong start throughout the race.
