Consistent Gains and a Strong Finish Damon Santa Maria demonstrated steady improvement throughout the 2025 Mesa Marathon 10K, finishing with an impressive 52:55 and an overall pace of 8:32 min/mile. Notably, he consistently increased his pace across each mile, with his fastest segment occurring between miles 5 and 6 at a pace of 7:23 min/mile. His performance placed him 169th out of 1,107 male participants and 19th in the M45-49 division. His ability to speed up as the race progressed is commendable. Starting with a pace of 9:47 min/mile, he managed to significantly drop it by nearly 1:30 min/mile by the race's end, a clear indicator of his endurance and strategic pacing. Encouragingly, focusing on pacing strategy in early segments could further enhance overall time and placement. Engaging in targeted speed work sessions and monitoring pacing strategies during training runs could assist in further breakthroughs.
