Date: February 8, 2025 Participant: Espy Espinoza #11261 Race: 2025 Mesa Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles Weather: Perfect running conditions at 63°F, partly cloudy skies, and a slight breeze from the east in Mesa, AZ.

Strong Start, Challenging Finish Espy maintained a consistent pace for the first 16 miles, with an impressive opening mile of 7:45. His average pace for the first half was approximately 8:00 min/mile, which indicates a solid performance in the early stages. Notably, Espy's pace at mile 4 was his fastest split at 7:42, highlighting a strong effort. Espy was consistent in the top half of his age group, placing 48th-52nd from mile 3 through 17. Post mile 17, there was a noticeable shift in pace, with splits above 9 min/mile. The largest slowdown occurred between miles 18 and 21, with the split pace peaking at 20:16 min/mile by mile 21. Despite the difficulty, Espy finished with a time of 5:05:04, placing 115th in his division. A strategic focus on maintaining rhythm in the latter miles could enhance race resilience. Remaining part of the Atlanta Run Club will provide strong support for future improvements.
