Date: February 8, 2025 Participant: Kevin DeGroff #11048 Race: 2025 Mesa Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles Weather: Perfect running conditions at 63°F, partly cloudy skies, and a slight breeze from the east in Mesa, AZ.

Strong Progress Shown with Impressive Pace Kevin DeGroff demonstrated consistent pacing and finished strong at the 2025 Mesa Marathon. Starting with a solid 5:35-minute mile for the first mile, Kevin managed to maintain his momentum throughout the race. His pacing was consistently between 5:35 and 6:21 minutes per mile, with a total elapsed time of 2:35:05 for the 26.2-mile marathon, averaging a 5:55-minute mile. This performance secured him the first position in the Male 19-24 division category. Impressively, Kevin displayed strong race tactics, especially in the final six miles, despite a small drop in pace in the latter portion. Compared to his previous marathon performance in 2020, he's made significant improvements, cutting over 11 minutes from his prior best. His gradual improvement through various splits indicates refined endurance capacity. For further growth, maintaining more consistent splits in the back half of a race could optimize his overall performance even more.
