Consistent First Half with Late Splits Challenge Igino Tantoco, 29, from Arlington, VA, ran a steady first half at the 2025 Mesa Marathon. His initial splits showed a consistent pace, beginning with a comfortable 9:08 min/mile in the early mile, settling into a rhythm between 9:34 to 10:09 min/mile through the midway point. His placement among peers, specifically in the Male 25-29 division, remained competitive around the top 200-250 range for the first half. In the final stages, Igino faced increased challenges with pace and placement. Starting mile 21, there was a noticeable pace slowdown, peaking at a 25:32 min/mile pace in mile 25. This resulted in a shift to 11:15 min/mile overall. Despite the late slowdown, his rank within the race remained stable, finishing 265th in his division among 3624 total participants. Implementing strategies to maintain pace during the latter half could enhance endurance for future marathons.
