Consistent Early Pace with Slower Finish Evan Barnhouse, a 21-year-old runner from Dublin, CA, demonstrated consistency in pace during the initial stages of the 2025 Mesa Marathon. In the first half of the race, Evan maintained a steady pace, averaging around 11:08 min/mile. Notably, his fastest split was mile 1 at 10:47 min/mile, securing a strong start. However, Evan faced a gradual slowdown in the second half, finishing the 26.2-mile course in 6:11:50 with an overall average pace of 14:11 min/mile. His final splits were slower, ranging from 19:09 min/mile to 21:35 min/mile. During the last split, his place in the M19-24 division dropped from a peak of 186 to 240. Focusing on strategy in later miles and managing exertion could enhance performance in future races. Evan's determination, shown by completing the race, is commendable.
