Consistent Start but Tightening Mid-course Adversity Carlos Alberto Fierro Bernal maintained a strategic pace for much of the 26.2-mile marathon. He kept a commendable sub-8-minute mile pace for the first third of the race, beginning with his fastest split at mile 4 with a pace of 6:57 min/mile. His steadiness through the initial stages is well-reflected with consistent rankings, such as holding the 56th position within the M40-44 division at mile 3. As the marathon progressed, Carlos’s pace started to diminish, moving to 7:54 min/mile by mile 15. The challenging segment at mile 17 saw a significant slowing to 12:36 min/mile. One area to consider could be examining strategies to maintain energy levels beyond mid-course to prevent slowing with a review of pacing strategies at these later stages. Carlos finished the marathon in 3:33:19, placing 817th overall out of 3,624 participants, demonstrating an admirable performance amidst a competitive field.
