Consistent Start, Slower Finish Xavier showcased a steady pace in the initial miles of the 2025 Mesa Marathon, maintaining an 8:33 to 8:35 min/mile pace through the first four miles. This effort allowed him to secure a competitive position, being placed as high as 145th in his division (M30-34). In mile 5, there was a noticeable dip with a split time of 10:57, which may have affected his momentum, but he quickly regained a faster pace with a fast split of 7:14 in mile 6. As the race progressed, the pace notably slowed past mile 14, and by mile 21, Xavier was running at a 13:10 min/mile. This gradual deceleration resulted in a final elapsed pace of 10:09 min/mile, finishing in 4:26:17. Overall, he placed 2060th out of 3624 total participants. It might be beneficial to focus on maintaining consistent pacing during the latter half of the race for future marathons.
