Strong Start, Consistent Middle, Slight Dip at the End Mason Sandstrom, a 13-year-old participant from Mesa, AZ, showcased notable consistency throughout the 2025 Mesa Marathon 10K event. Initial pacing was impressive, with Mason completing the first mile in 8:52, placing him in a competitive position within his division and gender. His second mile saw an improvement, with a split time of 7:44, elevating his overall position to 169. Despite a steady first half, the latter miles revealed a tendency to slow down, with split paces of 9:06 and 9:13 during the fourth and fifth miles. In conclusion, his final elapsed time was 56:15, translating to an average pace of 9:04 min/mile, securing him a spot as 16th in the M1-14 division and 235th among males. Mason showed excellent early race energy, and with some strategic pacing adjustments in the later miles, he could continue to improve future performances.
