Consistent Start with Challenges in Final Miles Shelbey Butterfield, representing Team War of the Chapped Butts, completed the 2026 Mesa Marathon in an official time of 5:04:15 with an overall pace of 11:36 min/mile. Over the course of 26.2 miles, she maintained a relatively steady pace through the early miles, starting with a strong 9:36 min/mile in the first mile, and continuing to hold an even pace around the 9:45-9:59 min/mile range up to the 8-mile mark, which shows great pace consistency. The latter part of the marathon presented more difficulty, notably from mile 19 onward where the pace slowed significantly to 15:04 and 11:33 min/mile in the final miles. To capitalize on her strengths, it may be beneficial to incorporate endurance training aimed at maintaining pace in longer distances. Despite the challenging finish, Shelbey demonstrated a commendable level of determination and commitment throughout the event.
