Consistent Strides and a Pacing Challenge Drake Westhoff participated in the 2026 Mesa Marathon and completed the 26.2-mile course with an overall time of 4:57:22, maintaining an average pace of 11:21 min/mile. There were a few notable fluctuations in his pace. The first mile was strong at 9:16 min/mile, but variability increased as the race progressed, from 10:43 min/mile at the 6th mile to 12:23 min/mile at the 19th. Noteworthy is a significant boost in speed between miles 6 and 7, where Drake recorded an impressive 8:17 min/mile. An area to explore for improvement would be maintaining a more consistent pace, especially post-halfway, as the pace variations might have impacted the final elapsed time and placement. This was Drake's first full marathon, and the experience highlights the need to focus on managing consistent pacing throughout. Analyzing the pacing patterns could benefit future marathon performance.
