Steady Early, Pace Challenges Late in Half Marathon Gage Dayley maintained a consistent pace in the early stages of the 2026 Mesa Marathon Half Marathon. His pacing started strong, running the first mile in 8:31 and continuing to sustain a solid pace with splits tightly clustered around 8:30-8:32 min/mile for the first 6 miles. This consistency placed him within the top 80 of his division (M19-24) through the first half of the race. However, as the miles progressed, there was a noticeable decline in his pace. By mile 7, the pace increased to 8:58 min/mile, and it continued to rise slightly, reaching 9:50 min/mile by mile 12. This deceleration suggests that focusing on endurance in the latter stages of a race could be beneficial. Despite the slowdown, Gage finished with an overall time of 1:56:45, maintaining admirable positions both overall and within his division. Reviewing pacing strategies and perhaps incorporating tempo runs could enhance future performances.
